Calgary once again woke up to a big dump of slushy, wet snow, as the city and surrounding communities of Cochrane, Airdrie, and Okotoks were under a snowfall warning overnight.
The warning was lifted just before 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The snow tapered off by the late morning, but not before 13 to 17 centimetres fell in the City of Calgary as of 10 a.m.
Some more snow is expected to fall on Friday evening in and around Calgary.
This evening’s snow is expected to begin in the southwest, and continue to spread up to the north.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Heather Rombough, says things aren’t stopping this weekend.
“There’s going to be some more snow coming in tonight, overnight into Saturday. It looks like just a couple centimetres with that. Sunday there’s more snow lingering over southern Alberta, so far it looks like it’s going to stay out of Calgary but it could shift because it’s that time of year where everything gets a little hard to forecast,” she explained.
Even though the forecast indicates conditions will finally warm up on Monday, it will be a while before we’re out of the woods.
“You’re really not in the clear for getting snow any month of the year there, but May is when you can start thinking spring is for real,” Rombough said.
She adds that while it may be annoying, the trend of warming and cooling is nothing new for springtime in Calgary
City crews work around the clock during snow events, and start off with the most popular routes such as Crowchild Trail, Glenmore Trail, and Memorial Drive.
But no matter where you’re going, the city is reminding drivers to plan ahead this morning, and give themselves extra time to get where they need to be.
