Alberta RCMP warn of dangerous drugs following fatal overdose

By The Canadian Press

RCMP in Alberta are issuing a warning after receiving a report from Health Canada regarding a large quantity of a drug seized in late February, following a suspected fatal overdose.

Police say the drug contained Fluorofentanyl mixed with Bromazolam, which is a benzodiazepine.

The analyzed drug was oval in size, stamped with “20” and “SS”, though it can come in other forms.

Police say it’s the first recorded instance of Bromazolam in Alberta, and the drug was linked to nine fatal overdoses in New Brunswick in 2022.

Mounties warn naloxone is not effective in reversing the effects of Bromazolam.
