Man in serious condition after garbage truck rollover in Calgary’s SE

A man is in serious, life-threatening condition following a rollover in Calgary’s southeast Tuesday afternoon.

Calgary police say around 4:15 p.m., a 2005 waste disposal truck driven by a 50-year-old man was driving on the ramp from northbound Macleod Trail SE to Stoney Trail SE, when it failed to navigate the curve of the road.

The truck crossed the shoulder onto the grassy median, according to investigators, before hitting a light pole and then the supporting wall of the bridge deck above.

Police say the truck then rolled and came to a rest on its roof.

The man driving the truck was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol aren’t considered to be factors in the collision, investigators add.

Police continue to investigate what led to the collision and are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
