Seven people have been taken to hospital after fire crews responded to a carbon monoxide call in northwest Calgary.

Calgary fire says crews were called to the parkade of a large residential building in Brentwood near Crowchild Trail and 32 Avenue NW around 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

Calgary Fire Department’s Carol Henke says crews were using a gas powered pressure washer to clean the parkade when two of them reported being ill.

She says fire crews measured dangerous levels of carbon monoxide inside the parkade when they arrived.

“They found levels of over 1000 parts per million, which is extremely high and extremely dangerous,” she says.

Seven people who were working in the parkade were rushed to hospital. There is no word on their condition.

Crews are working to ventilate the parkade and Henke says they confirmed the residential area of the building is fine.

“Access points to the parkade have all been blocked off so that nobody enters this extremely hazardous area,” reads a release from the fire department.

Henke is reminding residents to never use gas powered appliances in an enclosed space.
