Although fans flocked to Stampede Park Thursday night to get an early taste of this year’s Calgary Comic Expo, the 2024 event officially kicked off Friday morning with the Parade of Wonders.

The four-day event is a massive draw for the city, bringing in thousands of spectators eager to meet some of their favourite actors, artists, and entertainers.

There will be lots of fun for the whole family this morning, as the Parade of Wonders is set to start at 10:30 a.m. at 8 Street and 8 Avenue SW, before the thousands of superheroes, villains, and characters alike arrive at Olympic Plaza for the opening ceremony at 11:15 a.m.

More information on the parade is available here.

The event runs until Sunday and will feature celebrity Q&As, autograph signings, photo ops, cosplays, comics, anime, and more.

Calgary’s own Todd McFarlane, known for his work on ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Spawn,’ will be attending. He spoke to CityNews this week to talk about his fans and this year’s event.

Some other notable guests this year include Matthew Lillard and Neve Campbell from ‘Scream,’ and Gina Carano from ‘The Mandalorian.’

At the end of the parade, some of the celebrity guests were white hatted in a ceremony, a time-honoured city tradition representing hospitality.

Those given the royal treatment included John Rhys Davies, Todd McFarlane, Ashley Eckstein, Skeet Ulrich, Tyler Johnston, Evan Stern, Andrew Herr, Michelle Mylett, and Dylan Playfair from Letterkenny, Roger Craig Smith, and Patricia Summersett.

CityNews660’s Andrea Montgomery was down in the chaos of the damp and cloudy parade morning, where she chatted with all kinds of attendees.
