Family mourns man lost in Highway 2 crash east of Okotoks

A man involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 2 east of Okotoks earlier this month passed away this week, his family has announced.

Neil Madden, identified on a GoFundMe page as a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, and dear co-worker, died May 11.

On Thursday, May 2, emergency crews were called to Highway 2 near 338 Avenue, east of Okotoks, around 1:45 p.m. for reports of a serious, multi-vehicle collision.

Multiple reports at the time suggested a fuel tanker had flipped on its side.

Family say Madden was airlifted by STARS to the intensive care unit at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

As of May 6, he had undergone two reconstructive surgeries.

One other person was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Thanking everyone for the support in fundraising, Madden’s family expressed “deep sadness” at his passing.
