Man charged with stealing $1,000s in meat, cannabis products from Calgary businesses

A Calgary man is facing charges in connection with break-and-enters that resulted in thousands of dollars of meat and cannabis products being stolen.

Calgary police say the products were stolen from two businesses in the city’s southeast earlier this month.

On June 7, officers were called to Four20 Premium Market near 52 Street SE and Glenmore Trail around 1 a.m. Police allege they arrived to find the glass door of the business broken and more than $2,000 in cannabis products missing.

Four days later, on June 11, officers were called to Pre Pak Meats around 36 Street SE and 50 Avenue SE around 3:45 a.m. Police again allege the door into the store was broken and say more than $7,000 worth of meat was gone.

After reviewing security footage from both businesses, investigators identified a suspect and executed a search warrant at a home in the Vista Heights community in northeast Calgary.

While searching the home, police say officers found two deep freezes full of stolen meat and 24 packages of stolen cannabis products. Officers also found clothing matching what the suspect was wearing in the security footage.

Police say 43-year-old Jeffrey McPherson is facing two break and enter charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
