A suspect is on the run after police surrounded a home in southeast Calgary on Thursday afternoon after tailing a vehicle that fled from officers.
Calgary police tell CityNews a “suspicious vehicle” fled from officers around 1:30 p.m. and began driving erratically.
The officers were able to track the vehicle to a home near 17 Avenue and 44 Street SE with the help of a HAWCS helicopter. The occupants of the vehicle ran into the home.
“After failed attempts to get the occupant’s attention, the TAC team decided to make entry and clear the residence,” explained Staff Sgt. John Guigon. “Unfortunately, they found no one. So, it appears our suspect was able to slip containment prior to being established, unfortunately.”
Callers to the CityNews 660 traffic centre reported around 7 or 8 police cruisers in the area. A photo from the scene shows a CPS armoured-vehicle in the front driveway of residence.
Due to the police presence, 44 Street SE was closed in both directions between 17 and 16 avenues.
The investigation is ongoing.
