19-year-old dies after being struck by car on Stoney Trail

A 19-year-old has died of his injuries after being struck by vehicle on Calgary’s ring road earlier this week.

Emergency crews were called to Stoney Trail just north of McKnight Trail NE around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.

Calgary police say a 2010 Cadillac CTS4 was traveling in the right southbound lane on Stoney when a 19-year-old man entered the lane of traffic and was struck.

The 19-year-old was rushed to hospital with life-threatening condition and Calgary police updated Thursday that he died of his injuries.

The 25-year-old driver of the Cadillac stayed at the scene and was not injured. Police also say the victim was accompanied by another pedestrian, a 13-year-old boy, who was also not injured.

Investigators say police received calls about two males walking into traffic and trying to stop vehicles shortly before the crash occurred.

Neither the driver or the surviving pedestrian are facing any criminal charges and police say they do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor for anyone involved.

Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police.
