2024 Calgary Stampede nearing attendance record on final weekend

Calgary Stampede officials are out with Friday’s attendance numbers, and it’s getting close to breaking its record on the ninth day of the annual festival.

Friday’s attendance was 134,157, making the total visits 1,174,880. This is just over 220,000 shy of the current record of 1,409,371 set in 2012. The 2023 attendance fell short with 1,384,632.

The Stampede has already set the single-day attendance record in 2024 when more than 200,000 people showed up at the park for Tim Horton’s Family Day on Sunday.

It’s also seen a drop in heat with temperatures compared to earlier in the week when the city and parts of Alberta were under a heat warning. Twenty-nine heat records were broken on Wednesday.

Officials say they will be speaking to the public on Sunday at 10 a.m. on the “record-setting Stampede,” along with Stampede Park being ready to “welcome guests year-round.”

Environment and Climate Change Canada says Saturday will hit a high of around 26 C with a 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the last day will cool down to a high of 21 C, with a 30 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.
