Police identify ‘vehicle of interest’ in deadly double shooting east of Calgary

Police are out with a description of a pickup truck they say is connected to a deadly double shooting east of Calgary on Tuesday.
Emergency crews responded to reports of the shooting at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, north of Chestermere, around 12 p.m., where two men were found with gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and the other has non life-threatening injuries. The pair have been identified as a Rocky View County worker and a FortisAlberta employee.
Investigators soon learned two suspects fled the scene in a stolen Rocky View County fleet vehicle that was later found abandoned, and now say the suspects arrived at the rural intersection where the shooting took place in a pickup truck that was stolen in Calgary a day earlier.
RCMP say the pickup was stolen from a home in the 400 block of Abadan Place NE, in the Abbeydale community, around 5:55 a.m. Monday. It is described as a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal-coloured aftermarket rims and shell shaped lug nuts.
“We’re looking for any assistance the public may have with respect to this vehicle,” says RCMP Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz. “It is very distinctive, it’s really identifiable.”
Anyone who may have dashcam or security footage of the truck between the time it was stolen and the time of the shooting on Tuesday are being urged to contact Strathmore RCMP.
Victims not targeted, suspects whereabouts still unknown
Police have not said a motive of the shooting, but Wielgosz confirmed Wednesday the victims were “not targeted.”
No descriptions of the suspected shooters have been made available.
“We don’t have any information established sufficiently to a point that any tips would be helpful,” Wielgosz says, when asked why police have not released descriptions.
Investigators have not offered any information as to where the two suspects could be now, but call the risk to the public “low.”
“We do not believe that these offenders are in the area, and we do not believe they are coming back,” said Wielgosz.
