The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating a fatal shooting by police that occurred Wednesday morning in southeast Edmonton.

At about 6 a.m., the Edmonton Police Service, along with RCMP members from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, were executing a search warrant at a home in the area of 15th Avenue and 54th Street.

Police say when officers went into the home to speak with the suspect, he allegedly stabbed one of the EPS members, resulting in police officers shooting the suspect.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene, the EPS said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

The police officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier Wednesday morning, CityNews spotted several police vehicles near the residence of the suspect, located in the Sakaw neighbourhood of Mill Woods. Police tape surrounded the area.

While the Alberta police watchdog posted about their investigation on X, they would not provide further details.
