Calgary police announce passing of Hawk, retired victim support dog

Calgary police say their retired victim assistance support dog, Hawk, has died.

In a social media post Friday, Calgary Police Service say Hawk was a trailblazer as the first dog in Canada to provide support to a victim in court during a trial.

“Through his work with the service, Hawk touched the lives of countless Calgarians with his unwavering compassion and unshakeable dedication to serving others,” reads the post.

Hawk joined the services’ victim assistance and support team in 2013 and retired in 2021.

CPS say he will be remembered as a “guardian angel in fur who walked among us.”
