13-year-old Calgary girl dies from injuries after fiery crash near Lethbridge

One of the four children critically injured in a head on collision near Lethbridge Wednesday has died.

A girl from Calgary has died from her injuries after a fiery crash near Lethbridge this week that left three other children in critical condition.

Emergency crews were called to the Highway 3 and Highway 3A interchange, about 20 kilometres west of Lethbridge, just after midnight Wednesday for reports of a crash.

Crews arrived to find a white vehicle on fire with front end damage and a 2024 Nissan Sentra with significant front end damage.

The driver of the white vehicle, a woman from Calgary, was taken to hospital in non-life-threatening injuries. Three children from the same family aged 16, 13, and 9, were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

In an update Friday, mounties say the 13-year-old girl died from her injuries in hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, a man from Lethbridge, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His 7-year-old son was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

There is no word on the cause of the crash. Mounties said the damage to the vehicles pointed to a head-on collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
