Calgary road work to close and reduce lanes downtown and on Macleod Trail

As the summer season is coming to an end, construction season is full steam ahead.

The City of Calgary announced Saturday there will be road construction and maintenance downtown and on Macleod Trail.

The city says 6 Avenue SW between 9 and 11 streets will be reduced to two lanes until Aug. 31.

It also says 10 Street between 6 and 7 avenues will be fully closed for maintenance work on traffic signals.

This also comes as Ward 14 Coun. Peter Demong says milling and paving work for the road construction on Macleod Trail S from Stoney Trail to 226 Avenue will begin on Monday as part of the Annual Paving Program.

It is expected to finish in mid-October, weather permitting.

He says crews will be working Monday through Sunday throughout the night and day to “ensure timely completion of the project.”

“As you might expect, there will be impacts on the commuters and nearby community, including temporary lane closures with advanced signage, construction dust, noise, and vibrations. Calgary Police Service will be on site directing traffic during intersection construction,” he said.

Demong says to reach out to annualpaving@calgary.ca or call 311 for any concerns about the project. Information on the project can be found online.
