Motorcyclist dead, stretch of Macleod Trail reopens following two-vehicle crash

Calgary police continue to investigate a crash that left a motorcyclist is dead in south Calgary on Wednesday evening.
Calgary police tell CityNews emergency crews responded to a crash involving a car and a motorcyclist on Macleod Trail near 99 Avenue SW around 6:45 p.m.
At that time, a 2013 Hyundai Accent, driven by a man in his 80s, was travelling northbound on Macleod Trail, attempting to turn west on 99 Avenue SW.
The driver of the car entered the intersection and waited for oncoming traffic to pass before trying to turn.
At the same time, a 2024 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle, driven by a 28-year-old man, was going south on Macleod in the right lane, approaching 99 Avenue.
Police say as the driver of the Hyundai tried to turn, the motorcycle hit the vehicle, and the rider was thrown from his bike.
He was declared dead on scene. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision, however speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
Macleod was closed in both directions between Southland Drive and Willow Park Drive SE until 1 a.m.
