Police seek witnesses in downtown Calgary shooting

A man has serious injuries following a daylight shooting in downtown Calgary on Wednesday. Edward Djan reports.

Calgary police are appealing to the public for information in a shooting that happened downtown Wednesday.

Investigators say around 5:30 p.m., officers were called to Dermot Baldwin Way SE, near the Calgary Drop-In Centre, for reports of a shooting.

Police believe a fight between three men escalated when one of them was shot. One of the two suspects may have been hurt in the process, investigators add.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

Police say the two suspects left the scene.

The incident isn’t thought to be random and police say the suspects and victim knew each other.

Investigators are now asking anyone with information or dashcam of footage in relation to the incident to contact police.

Police are specifically looking for footage from anyone who was driving on the 5 Avenue flyover or the Reconciliation Bridge between 5:20 p.m. and 6 p.m., or who saw anything suspicious.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and anyone with information can contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.

The 5 Avenue flyover was briefly closed as police blocked off the area, but the roadway has since reopened.
