Skier dead after fall in backcountry near Lake Louise: RCMP

A woman is dead after falling while backcountry skiing in Banff National Park on Tuesday.

RCMP say emergency crews were called to a back country area near Moraine Lake around 7 a.m. after getting reports a skier fell a “considerable distance.”

Parks Canada sent in Visitor Safety Specialists and the skier was pulled out by alpine helicopters.

STARS air ambulance was called in, but Mounties say the skier was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as a 34-year-old woman from Lake Louise.
