A severe thunderstorm watch has been lifted for Calgary after parts of the city was hit with damaging winds on Tuesday.
Environment Canada issued the watch Tuesday morning, noting that conditions were favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could bring heavy rain, wind, and hail.
The agency also warned o a slight chance of a tornado.
Some areas saw damaging wind throughout the day, including in south Calgary where a tree fell on top of a house in the community of Bonavista Downs.
Several online posts from east of the city suggest a severe storm touched down around Strathmore in the early afternoon.
One Strathmore resident tells CityNews a storm lasted about 15 minutes and brought heavy rain, strong wind, and pea-sized hail.
A thunderstorm watch means severe weather is possible; a warning would indicate a storm has been spotted or is occurring.
Tornado warning lifted for southeastern Alberta
A tornado warning was issued for parts of southeastern Alberta just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The warning included the city of Medicine Hat and surrounding areas. It was lifted around 4:30 p.m.
Residents are urged to take cover in a basement or interior room if threatening storms approach. Those caught outside are advised to protect themselves from flying debris and hail.
