Motorcyclist in hospital after 2-vehicle crash in SE Calgary: police

By CityNews Staff

Police say a motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a two-vehicle crash in southeast Calgary Sunday sent him to hospital.

Officers say a man in his 20s driving a Yamaha FZ074 was travelling northbound in the right lane of Macleod Trail SE approaching 39 Avenue.

At the same time, a 30-year-old man driving a SUV Subaru Forester “attempted” to make a left turn from southbound Macleod Trail onto 39 Avenue.

Police say this led the motorcycle to collide with the Subaru because it entered his path. The motorcyclist smacked into the front right side of the Subaru, leading him to fly off and land near the southeast intersection corner.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after, closing the intersection for the rest of the night.

Investigators say the man was rushed to Foothills Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru suffered no injuries and remained at the scene.

They add speed, alcohol, and drugs are not considered factors.

The Calgary police traffic unit asks anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
