Police continue investigation into fatal T-bone crash in NE Calgary

Police continue to investigate a crash at a northeast Calgary intersection that left a man dead.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of 96 Avenue NE and Cornerstone Drive NE around 11:10 a.m. Monday morning.

Investigators say a Mack 600 semi-truck was heading westbound on 96 Avenue NE towards Cornerstone Drive, while a Toyota RAV 4 SUV was heading southbound on Cornerstone toward the stop sign at 96 Avenue.

Police say the SUV entered the intersection in the path of the truck and was struck on its driver’s side. The Toyota came to a stop in a ditch off the roadway.

The driver of the Toyota, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Images from the crash show the black Toyota with severe damage to the driver’s side.

The driver of the Mack truck was not hurt and stayed at the scene.

Police do not believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision are being urged to contact police.
