Two women sexually assaulted on public transit in NE Calgary, man in 70s charged: CPS

A man in his 70s is facing charges after two women were sexually assaulted in northeast Calgary earlier this year.

Police say the first assault happened on July 12 when a woman was on a bus in the community of Martindale.

It is alleged the woman was on the bus with one other stranger, when the man came up to her from behind and groped her. The victim confronted the man before moving seats and then got off the bus at her stop.

Police say she reported the incident to a district office the next day.

On Oct. 10, a woman was waiting for a bus at Rundle CTrain station when a man started talking to her and asked her to sit next to him. She sat down and the man allegedly started touching her in “a non-consensual manner.”

The woman told him to stop and then got on the next bus.

Calgary police have charged 72-year-old Ghulam Karami with two counts of sexual assault.

Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police at 403-266-1234, or CrimeStoppers anonymously.
