6-year-old hurt in Airdrie hit‑and‑run; police seek witnesses

Airdrie RCMP are asking for help tracking down the driver of this SUV believed to be involved in a hit-and-run that injured a child.

Police are looking for witnesses after a young child was hit by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash in Airdrie on Thursday night.

Airdrie RCMP say the crash happened around 5:43 p.m. on Cobblestone Blvd, where two children were helping their mother shovel snow from the sidewalk.

According to police, a gold Acura SUV veered off the road, hitting the child, then crashed into a tree before speeding away southbound.

The 6-year-old child suffered minor injuries.

Investigators believe the vehicle had two occupants, a female driver described as 16 to 20 years old with medium‑coloured skin and wearing a white toque, and a male passenger believed to be between 16 and 18.

The SUV was later found abandoned and has been seized by RCMP.
