Charges laid against Calgary police officer in 2022 suspect shooting

A carbon monoxide emergency forces 48 units in a condo building to evacuate in southwest Calgary. Rayn Rashid has the details.

Calgary Fire crews are responding to a carbon monoxide leak at a seniors home in the city’s southwest Friday morning.

Fire Information Officer Carol Henke says crews were dispatched just before 8 a.m. to 1000 Millrise Point SW. Callers reported smelling natural gas in the building.

Crews initially found CO readings of 120 parts per million (ppm) and made the decision to evacuate the building.

Henke says Calgary Transit has sent buses to shelter evacuees. Some residents have been relocated to another building.

A reading on the third floor found 600 ppm, according to Henke.

    ATCO is currently on scene.

Officials are working to investigate the source of the CO buildup.

This comes as officials responded to five CO calls on Thursday, including at an elementary school, a welding shop, and apartment buildings.
