Death of woman found hurt on Calgary pathway ruled a homicide: police

Calgary police say the death of a woman who was found badly hurt on a pathway in the city’s northeast last week has been deemed a homicide.

Calgary police say the death of a woman who was found badly hurt on a pathway in the city’s northeast last week has been deemed a homicide.

Investigators say just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 9, a passerby found a woman in medical distress on the Nose Creek Pathway near 32 Avenue NE and Deerfoot Trail.

The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition where she later died. She has since been identified as 23-year-old Calgary resident Jelisa Maschki.

In an update Wednesday, police now say they have enough evidence to rule her death a homicide and say it is the “result of a fatal altercation” that happened between 9 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 8.

“Tips from the public have been instrumental in helping us progress this investigation and find answers for Jelisa’s family,” says Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit.

“This investigation is far from over and we have identified a new time frame that we are specifically looking for information and video from.”

Police are asking for security or dashcam footage from anyone who was in the Deerfoot Trail and 32 Avenue NE, and 32 Avenue between Deerfoot and 36 Avenue NE, between 9 and 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Investigators are also urging anyone who used the Nose Creek Pathway around the timeframe to contact them at 403-266-1234, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
