Calgary man charged in downtown bank robberies minutes apart

Calgary police say a man has been arrested and charged in two bank robberies downtown earlier this week.

Investigators say a man entered an ATB Financial on 8 Avenue SW just before 11:30 a.m. on Monday, where he approached the teller and passed a note demanding money, implying he had a gun.

The suspect then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Employees then called police.

A short time later, around 11:50 a.m., investigators believe the same man went into a Scotiabank on Fourth Street SE, and again passed a note asking for money to the teller.

A employee at the bank told him to leave, and he exited the business without any money, according to police.

Police were contacted by employees of the second bank.

The man was found a short time later in East Village and arrested.

Kual Kual, 34, is charged with two counts of robbery.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
