Calgary Humane’s director of enforcement, Brad Nichols, says it will go a long way.

“This generous grant will enable us to modernize our technological infrastructure, enhancing the programs and services that make Calgary Humane Society a lifeline for animals and people alike; from our admission services that ensure the animals that need us the most are brought in without delay, to our community programs that help families stay together with their animal companions,” he said.

Another big recipient is the Western Megatronics Association, which is getting $35,000 for hosting the 2025 Mecha Mayhem event at Calgary’s BMO Centre next month.

The event aims to province young Albertans with the chance to participate in a robotics tournament.

Meanwhile, $8.9 million of the cash will help upgrade or build 146 public-use facilities across Alberta, and $2.8 million will support projects such as music and cultural festivals, and performing arts exhibits.
