Calgary police charge man accused of attempted break-in at NW home

Calgary police have arrested and charged a man accused of attempting to break into a northwest home last month... while a woman was inside the house.

Calgary police say a man accused of trying to break into a northwest Calgary home while a woman was inside last week has been arrested and charged.

Earlier this month, police asked for help from the public identifying the man in the incident, that took place in January in the community of Mount Pleasant.

Around 3 p.m. on Jan 25, police say the woman was inside her home on 24 Avenue NW when she got a notification on her phone indicating someone was at the front door.

She didn’t recognize the man and didn’t open the door.

According to investigators, a short time later, the man began kicking the front door and using a sharp object to try and get inside the home.

Police say the woman left the home through the back door and immediately called police.

The suspect wasn’t able to get inside the home and was thought to have left the scene in a silver 2006 Ford Escape.

Fifty-five-year-old Daniel Raymond Kottusch has now been charged with one count of break and enter with intent.

He remains in custody.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit a tip through CrimeStoppers.
