A Calgary man is facing charges after police say he befriended teenage girls, offered them drugs, and sexually assaulted them.

“These types of incidents are very concerning for the community, and I want to commend the teens for coming forward to police to report the incidents that occurred,” says Staff Sgt. Darren Smith with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) child abuse unit.

Investigators say last March, a 15-year-old girl was with two friends at Calgary’s Central Library on 3 Street SE, when a man approached them and befriended them.

A short time later, the three teens agreed to leave with the man, and all four people got into the man’s car and drove around downtown. At this time, the man offered the teenagers drugs.

Police say the 15-year-old’s friends eventually got out of the vehicle, leaving her alone with the man.

He apparently agreed to drive her home, but on the way, made an unexpected stop at a parking lot in northwest Calgary, where he inappropriately touched the teen.

The girl was dropped off at home and the incident was reported to police several weeks later.

Another victim, who was 13 at the time, reported two occasions where she met the same man downtown and subsequently spent time with him in hotel rooms where he touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her, while offering her drugs.

Police investigated the incidents and identified a third victim who recently came forward to police. She reported she was sexually assaulted by the same man in February 2024, when she was 15.

Once again, investigators say the man befriended the victim downtown, took her to a nearby hotel room, sexually assaulted her, and offered her drugs.

Abdulsatar Amad Luhar, 47, is now facing three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, and one count of obtaining services from a minor.

He remains in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 25.
