Highway 1A reopens after large grass fire west of Cochrane

Crews contained a large grass fire Tuesday afternoon that forced Mounties to shut down a stretch of Highway 1A west of the town of Cochrane.

Crews have contained a large grass fire that forced Mounties to shut down a stretch of Highway 1A west of the town of Cochrane on Tuesday afternoon.

Cochrane RCMP say they were called to the fire on the highway between Range Road 60 and Morley Road before 3 p.m.

The fire department and Volker Stevin were also on scene.

The fire was contained by 4:45 p,m., according to RCMP.

Highway 1A was closed in both directions between Morley Road and Ghost Lake Cottages for nearly two hours, but it has since reopened.
