    A child has serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle outside a school in southwest Calgary on Wednesday afternoon.

    Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Millrise Drive and Millrise Hill SW after 4 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian involved in a crash.

    Paramedics say a child was struck and rushed to Alberta Children’s Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

    The driver involved remained at the scene, police say.

    There is no word on the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

    The collision happened right next to Our Lady of Peace school for kindergarten to grade 9 students.

    The intersection was closed for several hours but the roads have since reopened.
