Calgarians who live downtown and are faced with food insecurity will soon have easier access to the resources of the food bank.
The Calgary Food Bank has announced the opening of a new branch in downtown, which it says will strengthen its ability to provide accessible, community-based food support.
The branch will be located in the Neoma building at 706 7 Avenue SW, the food bank says.
It will be operated in a facility managed by non-profit HomeSpace, which houses Inn From the Cold clients.
Calgary Food Bank says the collaboration between organizations will ensure a co-ordinated, community-driven approach to food security.
It’s expected to be fully operational by summer.
“The opening of this branch is more than just a physical expansion — it is a direct response to the needs of our community,” says Calgary Food Bank president and CEO, Melissa From. “Our strategic plan calls for innovative ways to ensure that food support is available when and where it is needed most.
“By placing a distribution site in the heart of downtown, right on the C-Train line, we are taking a critical step toward reducing barriers and increasing accessibility for vulnerable Calgarians.”
