Calgary Hitmen on cusp of 2025 WHL playoffs second round

The Calgary Hitmen are just one win away from reaching the second round of the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs, as they lead the Saskatoon Blades three games to none in their opening-round series.

In the first 180 minutes of this series, the Hitmen have never trailed and have outscored the Blades 13 to 4.

“It’s going to be hard,” admitted Calgary head coach Paul McFarland regarding the challenge of closing out the first round. “That’s what the playoffs are all about. We know these guys are going to play hard all the way. We’ve got to win one more game, and that’s the hardest one.”

Fourteen Hitmen players have recorded at least one point in the series, which reflects the team’s collective approach.

“If you’re going to go out there and be selfish, it’s not going to go your way,” stated forward Tanner Howe, who has contributed two goals and four assists. “Our coaches and everyone have bought into that – a winning culture.”

The Hitmen haven’t swept a playoff series since 2009.

Puck drop from SaskTel Centre is 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

If necessary, the series will return to the Saddledome for a fifth game on Friday.
