Calgary moves one step closer to boosting road safety funding

    UP NEXT:

Calgary police have confirmed the remains found on Thursday in SW Calgary are human, leaving some residents in the area shocked. Rayn Rashid reports.

Calgary police say remains found earlier this week in the city’s southwest are human, but they are still trying to determine how the person died.

Officers were called to a forested area along Spruce Drive SW north of Shagganappi Point Golf Couse around 3:15 p.m. Thursday after getting reports someone found a body.

Investigators searched a pathway in the area and a number of items were recovered.

In an update Friday, police say the medical examiner has confirmed the body belongs a man older than 25 and that it had been there for some time.

“The identity, manner and cause of death remain under investigation,” reads a release from Calgary police.

An anthropological exam is scheduled for next week and police will be conducting more searches of the area.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips anonymously to CrimeStoppers.
