One person is in custody after allegedly barricading themselves in a storm drain in northwest Calgary on Tuesday afternoon.
Calgary police say officers were called to a greenspace near Crowchild Trail and Nose Hill Drive NW after someone was spotted in a storm drain tunnel.
Police say the person had barricaded themselves and they spent several hours working to get them to leave.
“The person is not believed to be trapped, they are believed to be using the tunnel as a shelter,” police said, adding there was no risk to public safety.
Emergency vehicles could be seen leaving the area around 6:30 p.m. and police said the person was no longer in the tunnel.
A short time later, police got a call that the same person was returning to the area. Officers responded to the area and took the person into custody.
Police say the person is facing several charges and they will be providing an update at a later time.
