A Calgary shelter says they are in need of monetary donations following a weekend fire.
The Alpha House says in a social media post that a Saturday morning fire has shut down its shelter and detox facilities.
The post says the fire triggered the sprinkler system and everyone was safely evacuated, but the water damage means the two areas will be closed until further notice.
The Alpha House is a non-profit that cares for people impacted by drugs and alcohol and says they are still able to run a small 20-bed shelter out of their cafeteria for highly intoxicated individuals. They typically have 120 beds available.
Anyone willing to donate is being asked not to bring in physical items at this time since they don’t have the staff to deal with it.
Monetary donations can be on the Alpha House website.
