Speed, impairment likely factors in Stoney Trail crash that left driver critically hurt: CPS

Speed and impairment are believed to be factors in a weekend crash in Calgary that left a driver in critical condition.

Emergency crews were called to Stoney Trail near 88 Street SE in southeast Calgary around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday for reports of a crash.

Calgary police say a white 2017 Ram pick up truck was heading southbound on Stoney approaching the 88 Street exit when it left the roadway on the right side of the highway.

The truck crashed through a barbed wire fence, ending up on a pedestrian pathway before hitting a power pole and stopping.

The driver, a 31-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. No one else was in the truck.

No pedestrians were on the pathway at the time of the crash, according to police.
