A new multi-service facility has opened in Calgary’s northwest, providing residents with a variety of resources and opportunities.

The Varsity Multi-Service Centre at 3400 37 Street NW features a modern fire station, 48 mixed-income units, including 11 barrier-free homes and several multi-generational family units, a household hazardous waste drop-off, flexible workspace for City of Calgary teams, a new urban park, and retail space that has the potential to transform into a daycare space.

“This project is about building a resilient and inclusive community,” says Katie Black, general manager of community services. “We’ve brought together key services in one accessible location, while also adding much-needed housing and green space for the residents of Varsity and beyond.”

The city says once the new fire station is fully operational, demolition of the old facility will start. That site will be transformed into more park space, which the city says will complement the outdoor parkette in front of the new building.

A community open house is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will be able to get tours of the building and the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) Community Safety Team will host activities for the whole family. CFD’s mascot, Sparky, will also be on site.

Retail space will open for leasing opportunities once the facility is fully operational.
