What’s open and closed in Calgary on Canada Day 2025

If you're planning on taking in some of Calgary's Canada Day celebrations, here's what you need to know.

Canada Day lands on a Tuesday this year, which could mean an extra-long weekend for some, or just a holiday in the middle of the work week for others.

Some businesses will be closed during the holiday, and others will operate on reduced hours. Here’s what you need to know about closures on the Canada Day holiday.

Banks

Banks will be closed on Canada Day

Calgary Public Library

Calgary Public Library locations will be closed on Canada, except for the Central Library downtown which will operate on reduced hours (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

Canada Post

Canada Post locations will be closed on Canada Day, and no mail will be delivered

Grocery and liquor

Most grocery stores and liquor stores will be open on the holiday, some may have reduced hours. Check your local store for more details.

Costco locations will be closed on Canada Day and will not be doing deliveries

Shopping malls

  • CF Chinook Centre – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday
  • CF Market Mall – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday
  • CORE Shopping Centre – open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday
  • CrossIron Mills – open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday
  • Marlborough Mall – open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday
  • Southcentre – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday
  • Sunridge Mall – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday

Calgary Transit

Buses, CTrains and On Demand will be operating on a Sunday level of service on Tuesday, July 1.

The Blue Line will be closed between 69 Street and Downtown West/Kerby stations starting Saturday, June 28 until the very early hours of Monday, June 30.

Trains coming from the east/downtown will terminate at Downtown West/Kerby Station. For travel between Downtown West/Kerby and 69 Street, there will be shuttle buses replacing train service, running every 5 minutes.

Parking

On July 1, parking will be free in on-street ParkPlus zones and Calgary Parking parkades (with the exception of Arts Commons). Weekend rates apply at Arts Commons parkade and surface lots. 

Regular rates will be in effect at partner lots, such as TELUS Spark, University District, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

Road closures

 The following streets in the East Village will be closed on July 1 from 6 a.m. to midnight:

  • 8th Ave. S.E. from 4th St. S.E. to 6th St. S.E. 
  • 6th St. S.E. from 9th Ave. S.E. to 8th Ave. S.E. 
  • 5th St. S.E. from 9th Ave. S.E. to 7th Ave. S.E.

Street sweeping

There will be no street sweeping on Canada Day. Crews sweep residential areas Mondays through Fridays (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
