Man charged with assault following police shooting in SW Calgary

A man who was shot during a confrontation with police officers in southwest Calgary on Monday has been charged with assault.
Calgary police responded to a 911 hang-up call from a home on Yorkville Road SW in the community of Yorkville around 1 p.m.
Police say there were reports of a domestic incident involving a weapon, and a man left the home before they arrived. Responding officers found the man nearby at 194 Avenue and Sheriff King Street SW.
Officers and the suspect became involved in a confrontation that resulted in”use-of-force tools,” and one officer firing their gun at the man.
The man was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they have charged a 61-year-old Calgary man with one count of assault.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has taken over the investigation of the shooting. ASIRT investigates any incidents involving police that end in serious injury or death.
