E-bike rider injured after crash with SUV in NW Calgary

A serious crash in northwest Calgary Wednesday afternoon has shut down a busy stretch of 16th Avenue.

One person is hurt, and a stretch of 16 Avenue NW was closed for several hours after a crash involving an e-bike on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of 16 Avenue NW near Banff Trail around 2:05 p.m. for reports of a collision.

Police say the crash involves a vehicle and an electric bike. Images from the scene show a grey SUV and a damaged bike in the middle of the intersection.

The person on the bike was taken to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

16 Avenue NW was closed in both directions between University Drive NW and 19 Street NW for the investigation. The roads reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
