Suspect in SUV theft, crash ran from NW Calgary scene with broken leg

Calgary police continue to investigate a bizarre incident that happened Thursday involving a stolen vehicle and a broken limb.

Around 8:15 p.m., officers were called to Niven Road NW for reports of a motor vehicle collision.

When they arrived, police found a red Toyota Rav 4 had hit a parked truck in the area.

The driver of the Rav 4 ran from the scene of the accident.

Investigators confirm the SUV had been stolen.

Attending units flooded the area with the help of HAWCs and K9 units and found the suspect about five blocks away from the scene.

He was suffering from a broken leg, likely sustained in the incident.

The man was arrested without incident.

No one else was hurt.

Investigators say charges are pending.
