Woman, baby killed in fiery crash northeast of Calgary

Two people, including one infant are dead after police say a Dodge Ram pickup truck collided head-on with a semi-truck outside of Airdrie on Wednesday. 

A tragic two-vehicle crash northeast of Calgary has claimed the lives of a woman and a young child, and left two other children hurt.

Mounties in Airdrie responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 566 and Highway 9 around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, a Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling northbound collided with a southbound semi-truck, causing the pickup to catch fire.

The 36-year-old female driver of the pickup, a resident of Hanna, and an 18-month-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other children in the vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to a Calgary hospital. Their current condition is not known.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

RCMP say the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
