Police identify suspect in SE Calgary soccer field assault

Calgary police have identified a suspect involved in a violent assault that occurred last month at a school soccer field in the city’s southeast.

The incident took place on Aug. 9 between 7:20 and 7:35 p.m., at a school near 8 Avenue and 52 Street SE.

According to investigators, the victim had just finished playing a soccer match when an unknown man approached him from behind and physically attacked him.

The victim was knocked unconscious and sustained facial injuries, requiring hospitalization.

Police say the victim and the suspect were not known to each other and had no prior interaction.

Investigators asked the public for help identifying the suspect in a release on Friday. Later in the day, police said the suspect had been identified.
