Cavalry FC will be making a return to the Canadian Premier League Finals after they defeated their rivals Forge FC 1-0 in Hamilton.
Following a scoreless first half, the Cavs’ lone goal came off the foot of last season’s playoff hero, Tobias Warschewski, as he chipped the ball over the Forge goalkeeper in the 57th minute.
On the other end of the pitch, Cavalry goalkeeper Marco Carducci made several key saves early in the game to keep his side level, and continued his efforts into the dying minutes of the game to ensure his team got the win.
Cavalry look to defend their title — the North Star Cup — as they travel to the nation’s capital to take on Atletico Ottawa in the playoff final.
Ottawa holds the edge heading into the game, having defeated Forge FC in the Championship Semi-Final on Oct. 26, and having defeated the Cavalry in three out of four meetings this season.
On top of the North Star Cup, both teams are looking to join Forge FC and FC Vancouver in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup. Forge earned the right to play in the competition by winning the CPL Shield as the best team in the regular season. Meanwhile, FC Vancouver qualified for the competition as the Canadian Championship runners-up, after Vancouver Whitecaps, who won the Voyageurs Cup, got a better qualification seed via their seeding in the MLS.
The CPL Final will take place at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa on Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. Mountain Time.
