A 25-year-old Airdrie man is facing charges after police say he followed and filmed women and girls in the fitting rooms of two Calgary stores.
The first incident, according to investigators, was on June 30 at the Sport Check in Chinook Mall on Macleod Trail SW.
It’s alleged a woman and her daughter were shopping at the store, when the daughter went into the fitting room. A man unknown to the pair then slid his cellphone under the door, pointing upwards at her.
The girl told her mom, who alerted store staff. The incident was subsequently reported to police.
The second report came on July 30 at a Winners on Northland Drive NW.
Police say the details are similar; two women were shopping and one of them went into the fitting rooms before a phone was slid under the door facing upwards.
The woman opened the door and saw the man running out of the store, police say.
The pair reported the incident to police.
Investigators spoke to witnesses and looked at surveillance footage from both the stores. When they were looking at the footage from Winners, police also saw the suspect following and filming a young girl around the store for several minutes.
The suspect was identified prior to a search warrant being executed at his house on Nov. 11.
Police seized seven cellphones, a hard drive, and other electronic devices.
Benjamin Ryan Turcotte is now facing three counts of voyeurism.
His next court appearance is Dec. 8.
