GlobalFest, one of Calgary’s most celebrated summer festivals, has announced it is suspending operations due to what organizers describe as “unprecedented financial pressure.”
In a statement posted on its website, the festival cited rising costs, global geo-political constraints, and ongoing economic uncertainty as the driving factors behind the decision.
Organizers emphasized that the suspension is temporary, with plans to resume full operations by mid-January 2026.
“Across Canada, festivals are facing unprecedented financial pressure, and GlobalFest is no exception,” reads the statement from the organizers. “Our Board and Staff are working night and day to ensure GlobalFest can continue.”
Ticket sales have been paused for the next six weeks. Organizers say they are working to secure financial supports during this period.
Special ticket offers are expected to be available once sales resume in January.
GlobalFest reported a significant drop in attendance at its fireworks festival this past summer, with 11,000 fewer visitors compared to previous years. The decline has added to the event’s financial challenges.
Founded in 2003, GlobalFest has become a hallmark of Calgary’s cultural calendar. Each August, Elliston Park hosts dazzling fireworks displays from teams representing countries around the world.
The event has long been celebrated for its ability to bring communities together through art, culture, and international collaboration.
