A Quebec man is facing a long list of charges connected to human trafficking in Calgary, the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) says.

Twenty-two-year-old Xavier Hébert was arrested by ALERT Calgary’s Human Trafficking Unit last week with the help of the Calgary Police Service (CPS).

Police say he’d recently moved to the city after serving prison time in Quebec.

In that case, Hébert was sentenced for his involved in human trafficking dating back to 2021.

“ALERT’s investigation revealed that the suspect had relocated to Calgary and was trying to get involved in sex and drug trafficking. Our team acted quickly to make an arrest and prevent further people from being victimized,” said Staff Sgt. Gord MacDonald with ALERT.

Two suspected victims were identified and provided support resources.

Survivors of human trafficking can call 211 for help.

Hébert’s home in the Beltline was also searched by officers, who found evidence of drug trafficking.

Police seized small amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as a replica handgun.

He has been charged with material benefit from sexual services, procuring sexual services, advertising of sexual services, drug trafficking, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Hébert remains in custody and is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday.

An associate of Hébert’s — Vincent Houle — was also arrested at the home.

The 18-year-old was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a forged credit card.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact local police or CrimeStoppers.
