Son charged with murder following father’s death in SE Calgary

Police have charged a son in connection with his father’s death in southeast Calgary earlier this week.

Officers were called to a home in Deer Run shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday following reports of a disturbance.

Once on scene, they found a man in his 70s suffering from severe stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

The suspect was tracked to downtown Calgary and arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. Investigators later confirmed the victim and suspect are father and son.

Police have charged Robert George Durand, 37, with one count of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The victim’s name will not be released to protect the family’s privacy.
