Calgary man assaults Mountie and flees before cop dog take down: Crowsnest Pass RCMP

A 58-year-old Calgary man police believe was impaired and driving erratically in the Crowsnest Pass area assaulted a mountie and fled before being arrested.

RCMP say a Calgary man, believed to be impaired while driving erratically in the Crowsnest Pass area, assaulted a Mountie and fled before a police dog chased him down on Thursday.

It happened when RCMP say they responded to reports of an erratic driver on Highway 22 south of Highway 520, south of Calgary, at around 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 8.

When they approached the vehicle, a man was seen walking by the trunk while another was in the passenger’s seat.

Due to smelling alcohol on the man outside, RCMP were placing him under arrest, but they say he resisted by attacking an officer before taking off on foot

Mounties, however, sent out their police dog, who tracked and took him down. They say he was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

Meanwhile, 58-year-old Robert Val-Lane Edwards is facing several charges, including for assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

He is expected to appear in Lethbridge court on Jan. 12.
